Nagara is a town in the northern part of the city of Gifu. While the opening of Prefectural Road 77 in 2003 improved car access to Nagoya and increased convenience, the traditional landscape is changing due to the increasing number of suburban chain stores and the population decline. In such a typical suburb, there is no reliable context that would last as long as the lifespan of a new building. The static form of symmetry can serve as a reference line that highlights changes against the surrounding environment by actively generates friction between the two.
