Connections : 150 years of Modern Art between Japan and France

This exhibition juxtaposes artworks from Japan and France produced during the modernization period when human interaction and exchange of goods were actively promoted and Japan and France were indispensable partners in search for new aesthetic standards and sensibilities and works by contemporary artists who focus on illusions and even certain misalignments created by longing and curiosity for different cultures.  Artworks from different times and countries are therefore combined on the walls in the exhibition room. Slightly curved walls give viewers impressions that artworks appear out of the edge of the field of vision and vanish from view with each step. Viewers experience artworks from different times and genres as if wandering among them by going back and forth along the walls.
